Proper care during the healing process will ensure quality color and detail of the artwork.
If you change the aftercare process or recommended ointments, your artist is not obligated to touch up your tattoo free of charge. It is important that you take care of your tattoo properly once you leave the shop.
If at any time you have questions or concerns regarding the healing of your tattoo, please contact your artist right away for consultation.
Keeping Your Tattoo Healthy
Keeping Your Tattoo HealthyAll of your regular activities may be resumed after healing has completed, which could take 1-4 weeks depending on the type of tattoo you received and the area it was applied to. Following the guidelines below will help your tattoo heal quickly, and help keep it happy and healthy.
Your tattoo may be itchy as it is healing. Please do not scratch it! You may need to add more lotion if your skin feels dry and itchy.
It is very common for a fresh tattoo to be red and sore for the first 2-3 days. If redness and soreness does not subside by the 4th day, please consult with your artist.
Weeping is also common in the first few days. The fluid will be clear or tinted the same colors as your tattoo. That is normal.
It is recommended that you do not cover your tattoo unless it is necessary. Keep it uncovered whenever possible.
We do recommend covering your tattoo when you go to sleep for the first few days while you are still applying light ointment. This will protect your tattoo from drying out overnight and protect it from getting lint, hair, etc stuck to it.
We also recommend covering your healing tattoo when you need to wear clothing that will be touching and rubbing it in the first few days, while you are still applying ointment. Use clear plastic wrap and medical tape only when necessary, then wash and reapply ointment as soon as possible.
Don’t allow your tattoo to dry out. Avoid scabbing! Scabs are your body's natural way to protect a wound, but they can cause scarring and can damage the tattoo.
Don’t expose your healing tattoo to direct sunlight or tanning beds. Prolonged UVA/UVB exposure can cause scarring and can increase the risk of skin cancer. Skin is highly vulnerable when healing.
Don’t go swimming, go to the beach, soak in baths/hot tubs/pools, or sit in saunas with your healing tattoo.
Don’t apply sunblock to your healing tattoo. If you have to be outdoors while your tattoo is healing, make sure it’s properly covered and protected.
Don’t engage in heavy workouts until your tattoo is completely healed. Freshly tattooed skin is delicate and can be easily cut open or broken open. Take it easy for a few days so that your body can do its healing magic.
